Walwa Hotel - Walwa VIC

Set in the picturesque Upper Murray, the Walwa Hotel is a classic country pub where good food, cold drinks and genuine hospitality come together. Popular with motorcycle riders, anglers and travellers exploring the Alpine region, it's the perfect place to relax after a day on some of north-east Victoria's best riding roads.

The original Walwa Hotel was built during the 1870s, serving the farming and timber communities that shaped the district. After the original timber building was destroyed by fire in the 1930s, the hotel was rebuilt using locally made bricks, many of which were fired in the town's own brick kiln. Today, it remains the social heart of Walwa and a proud reminder of the town's resilience.

While visiting, explore the magnificent Upper Murray, cast a line in the Murray River, or ride to nearby Pine Mountain—the largest exposed monolith in the Southern Hemisphere. Scenic roads through Jingellic, Corryong and the Snowy Valleys make this region a favourite among touring riders.

Did You Know?
The name Walwa is believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning "place of waters," a fitting description for this beautiful Murray River district.
