A Piece of History

The Balldale Hotel was built in 1904 and has been part of the local community for more than a century. Like many country pubs, it was much more than somewhere to have a drink—it was a meeting place for farmers, families, travellers and the wider Balldale community.

After more than 100 years of serving the district, the hotel closed its doors in 2011 and eventually fell into an almost derelict state. In 2019, new owners purchased the historic pub and began an extensive renovation to bring it back to life while retaining its character.

On 2 November 2019, the Balldale Hotel reopened its doors, welcoming back local residents, former patrons, families and visitors. Today, the hotel once again plays an important role in this small Riverina community.

A Great Stop for Riders

The Balldale Hotel has developed a reputation as a destination rather than simply a place to pass through. The pub features classic and modern Australian meals, regional wines, a welcoming bar and a spacious outdoor beer garden. Live music is regularly featured on weekends, making it a great place to relax after a day on the road.

In 2025, the Balldale Hotel was recognised as the NSW Best Bush Pub, adding another reason to put this little Riverina gem on your riding itinerary.

Did You Know?

The village of Balldale was established following the subdivision of the large Quat Quatta Estate in the early 1900s. The town was named in honour of local politician Richard Ball, and the Balldale Post Office opened in 1905.

More than a century later, the Balldale Hotel continues the tradition of being a gathering place at the heart of this small community.
